Rather than dwell on the negative and hope for a better outcome, Neo-Image Candlelight is taking the following actions in fighting back against the COVID-19 pandemic.
We understand that society as a whole is struggling during these tough times. However, no one is doing more than healthcare professionals and employees of essential businesses that continue to put themselves at higher risk to the benefit of society.
At Neo-Image Candlelight, we recognize this dedication to serve the community is a responsibility for all that can and are able. For that reason, we are redirecting all resources available in support of these exceptional members of our community. We are retooling our high-speed candle filling lines and repurposing them to produce hand sanitizers for the front lines workers, essential businesses, and everyday consumers.
As one of Canadas largest and most established manufactures of candles, our existing capacity to produce tens of thousands of candles per day will allow us to do the same for hand sanitizers, helping fill the void felt across Canada.
The critical ingredient when it comes to hand sanitizer is alcohol. According to the CDC, hand sanitizer is more effective if it is at least 60 percent alcohol. Our blend is modeled to the recommended mix released by The World Health Organization. The formula consists of a mixture of glycerol, hydrogen peroxide, distilled water, and either ethanol or isopropyl alcohol at 80% concentration to guarantee its efficacy.
We plan to commit to large scale production capacity for the long run. Beyond fighting COVID-19, we hope to get people working again and bring essential jobs back, ranging from the supply chain to manufacturing and distribution.

How does hand sanitizer work?
Alcohol is effective at killing different types of microbes, including both viruses and bacteria, because it unfolds and inactivates their proteins.
This process, which is called denaturation, will cripple and often kill the microbe because its proteins will unfold and stick together. Heat can also denature some proteins — for example, when you cook an egg, the solidified egg whites are denatured proteins.
When to use hand sanitizer?
Always use before and after visiting a friend or a loved one in a hospital or nursing home. Public spaces and anywhere else cross-contamination may have occurred. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol, and wash with soap and water as soon as you can. * Do NOT use hand sanitizer if your hands are visibly dirty or greasy: for example, after gardening, playing outdoors, or after fishing or camping (unless a handwashing station is not available). Wash your hands with soap and water instead.
How to effectively use hand sanitizer?
Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Supervise young children when they use hand sanitizer to prevent swallowing alcohol, especially in schools and childcare facilities. Apply. Put enough product on hands to cover all surfaces. Rub hands together, until hands feel dry. This should take around 20 seconds. Note: Do not rinse or wipe off the hand sanitizer before it's dry; it may not work as well against germs.
